Slavuta (Ukrainian and Russian Славута ; Polish Sławuta ) is a city in Ukraine . The city is located about 98 kilometers north of the Oblast capital Khmelnitsky on the Horyn River.
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1633 and was strongly influenced by the Polish noble family Sanguszko , who had a large castle built in the place. Until 1793, the place belonged within the aristocratic republic of Poland to the Volhynia Voivodeship , after which it came to the Russian Empire and was incorporated into the Volhynia Governorate . In 1873 the railway line Sdolbuniw - Shepetivka (today part of the railway line Kovel - Kosjatyn ) was opened north of the place , Slavuta got a station on this line. In 1938 the place was also granted city status. The large Jewish population was completely expelled or wiped out during World War II .
