Sdolbuniw (Ukrainian Здолбунів ; Russian Здолбунов / Sdolbunow , Polish Zdołbunów ) is a Ukrainian city with just over 24,000 inhabitants.
Zdolbuniv is located in Rivne Oblast in northwestern Ukraine. It is located south of the regional capital Rivne . The next largest cities are Rivne and Ostroh . In the 19th century, the place was connected to the railway network by today's railway lines Kovel – Kosjatyn and Lviv – Sdolbuniw .
Part is the history Sdolbuniws killing several hundred Jewish men on August 7, 1941, a commando of Einsatzgruppe C .
In the spring of 1942, the city's Jews had to move to ghettos. At the beginning of October of that year the KdS (commander of the security police and SD) announced the murder of the Jews of Sdolbuniw, Mizocz ( Misotsch ) and Ostróg ( Ostroh ). The head of the German employment office in Sdolbuniw, Hans Raabe (1904–1974) was informed in order to be able to plan further work assignments. On October 12th , after hearing rumors about the excavation of pits near Sdolbuniw , Hermann Friedrich Graben pressed for information. On October 13th, the kitchen manager of the company Josef Jung testified that flares had been launched over the ghetto in Sdolbuniw. During the day, a command of the security police and SD shot 1,500 Jews outside the city.
