Klessiw (Ukrainian Клесів ; Russian Клесов / Klessow , Polish Klesów ) is an urban-type settlement in the western Ukrainian Rivne Oblast with about 4,500 inhabitants. It is located on the Sarny-Korosten railway line , about 20 kilometers east of the Rajons capital Sarny and 89 kilometers northeast of the Oblast capital Rivne .
On September 7, 2015, the settlement became the center of the newly established settlement community Klessiw (Клесівська селищна громада / Klessiwska selyschtschna hromada ). At that include even the 5 villages Karassyn (Карасин) Karpyliwka (Карпилівка) Klesiv , Puhatsch (Пугач) and Rudnia-Karpyliwska (Рудня-Карпилівська) and the settlement Straschewe (Страшеве), until then formed the settlement along with the villages Klessiw and Puhatsch the settlement council of the same name.
history
The place emerged only around 1900 as a station settlement in the Volhynia governorate as part of the Russian Empire , the name was derived from the northern village of Klesowo , which is now part of the municipality. Several granite deposits were developed in the vicinity of the place, these were connected by freight railways to the main line at the train station in Klessiw, whereby the place expanded quickly and finally got official village status in 1902. After the end of World War I , the town was part of the Second Polish Republic (to 1930 Province Polesia , then Volyn province , Powiat Sarny Gmina Klesów), after the outbreak of World War II , the area by the Soviet Union and in 1941 by Germany occupied In 1945 it finally came to the Soviet Union and was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR . Since the independence of Ukraine in 1991, Klessiv has been part of the same. The place has had the status of an urban-type settlement since 1940.
