Tuas Power Pte Ltd (TP) is one of the largest utility companies in Singapore .

history

Before 1995, the state-owned energy company Public Utilities Board (PUB) was a monopoly on electricity supply in Singapore. As part of the privatization of the electricity industry from 1995 onwards, the generation and distribution of electricity as well as the regulatory supervision for it were separated in Singapore. TP was founded in 1995 as a 100% subsidiary of Temasek Holdings to take over and operate the Tuas power plant , which was then under construction .

In 1997, PUB granted TP a license to generate electricity. In April 1998 the Singapore Electricity Pool (SEP) was established. TP became a member of the SEP and started trading electricity. With the commissioning of the first block of the Tuas power plant in March 1999, TP began operations.

SinoSing Power Pte Ltd , a 100% subsidiary of the Chinese China Huaneng Group , acquired TP from Temasek in March 2008 for S $ 4.235 billion . In July 2008, Huaneng Power International took over SinoSing Power from the China Huaneng Group. TP became a 100% subsidiary of Huaneng Power International, which in turn belongs to the China Huaneng Group.

Investments

TPG operates the power plant Tuas , which in the industrial zone Tuas of District Southwest is located. With an installed capacity of 2,670 MW , it is one of the most powerful power plants in Singapore.
TPU operates the Tembusu Multi-Utilities Complex (TMUC) on Jurong Island . TMUC produces electricity and supplies industrial customers with steam. In addition, there is a seawater desalination plant and facilities for wastewater treatment. The integrated approach is intended to increase efficiency and reduce resource consumption. When the expansion is completed in 2017, TMUC should produce 160 MW of electricity, 900 tons of steam per hour and approx. 20 million gallons of water per day. The cost of the plant is around S $ 2 billion .
