The power plant Tuas is an oil and gas power plant in Singapore , which in the industrial zone Tuas of District Southwest is located. Jurong Island is to the east of the power plant .
With an installed capacity of 2,670 MW , Tuas is one of the most powerful power plants in Singapore and serves to cover the base load .
Power plant units
The power plant consists of a total of six units with different capacities that went into operation from 1999 to 2005. Units 1 and 2 are normal steam generators that were originally fueled with oil, but now mostly with natural gas . Blocks 3 to 6 are gas-and-steam turbines . In 2012, Alstom received the order to build an additional 400 MW gas and steam turbine. When it is planned to be completed, it will replace one of the 600 MW units. The order value for this is around EUR 260 million. The plant went into operation in December 2013. The following table gives an overview:

history
Planning and construction of the two 600 MW units began in 1994 by the Public Utilities Board (PUB), which was Singapore's state utility at the time. In the following year, Tuas Power Pte Ltd (TP) was founded as a 100% subsidiary of Temasek Holdings as part of the beginning privatization of the electricity industry in Singapore. In 1997 the PUB granted TP a license to generate electricity. In April 1998 the Singapore Electricity Pool (SEP) was established. TP became a member of the SEP and started trading electricity.
owner
When it was founded in 1995, TP was a 100% subsidiary of Temasek Holdings . In March 2008 TP was sold to SinoSing Power Pte Ltd , a 100% subsidiary of the Chinese China Huaneng Group for S $ 4.235 billion . In July 2008, Huaneng Power International, Inc. (HPI) acquired SinoSing Power from the China Huaneng Group. TP became a 100% subsidiary of HPI, which in turn belongs to the China Huaneng Group.
Others
The Energy Market Authority in Singapore granted a total of 14 companies (as of 2012) permission to generate electricity, including Tuas Power Generation Pte Ltd , a wholly-owned subsidiary of TP. In 2012, these power generators together had an installed power plant capacity of 10,477.5 MW and generated a total of 46.9 GWh. With a market share of 24.5%, Tuas Power Generation 2012 was in third place behind Senoko Energy (26.3%) and YTL PowerSeraya (25.1%).
Most electricity in Singapore is now generated using combined cycle gas and steam power plants . The share of natural gas in electricity generation was 84.3% in 2012, that of oil (products) was 12.3%. The peak load for electricity consumption in 2005 was between 5,083 MW in January and 5,475 MW in October; in 2012 it was between 6,289 MW in February and 6,639 MW in May.
For household customers, the price per kWh was 17.7 S $ cents in 2005 and 27.9 S $ cents in 2012.
