The Kovel – Kiev railway line is a main line in Ukraine . It runs from Kovel , a railway junction in western Ukraine, in an easterly direction via Antoniwka , Sarny , Bilokorowytschi , Korosten and Spartak to Kiev , the capital of Ukraine. The line has a track width of 1520 m, the main line between Kovel and Korosten is single-track and not electrified, the rest of the line to Kiev is double-track and electrified. Operation is carried out by the Ukrainian Railways , in particular the Lvivska Salisnyzja and from Olewsk by the Piwdenno-Sachidna Salisnyzja .

history

The line was opened in 1902 by the Russian Southwest Railways , after 1918 the section between Kovel and the Polish-Soviet border as far as Ostki was transferred to the Polish State Railways PKP , and the rest of the line was connected to the Soviet Railways . The Polish line was converted to standard gauge, which meant that through traffic to Kiev was no longer possible and was discontinued, the route Kowel-Sarny-Ostki had the route book number 533 in 1939. After the Second World War , the entire line came to the Soviet Union and was back on broad gauge Re-gauged, the section between Kiev and Worsel has been electrified since 1959, after which electrification was gradually designated to Korosten in 1982.
