Butscha ( Ukrainian and Russian Буча ) is a Ukrainian city with about 27,000 inhabitants. It is located about 25 kilometers northwest of the capital Kiev in its metropolitan area and the oblast of the same name .
Today's city emerged from a train station that was built here at the end of the 19th century on what is now the Kovel – Kiev railway line . The name referred to the river Butscha crossing the railway line here . Until January 1, 2007, Butscha was an urban-type settlement and subordinated to the southern city of Irpin , after which it was granted city status and placed under oblast administration.
The largest employer in town is a glass factory.
