Jahotyn ( Ukrainian Яготин ; Russian Jagotin ) is a city in the Ukrainian Oblast of Kiev and the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
location
Jahotyn is located in the Dnieper lowlands about 100 kilometers east of Kiev on the left bank of Lake Supij, fed by the Supij river . The villages of Chervone Zarichya ( Червоне Заріччя ) and Sokoliwschtschyna ( Соколівщина ) also belong to the municipality of Jahotyn .
history
Jahotyn was founded in 1552. From 1648 to 1781 it was the garrison location of the Perejaslav regiment. Taras Shevchenko visited the city in July 1843. Since 1861 Jahotyn was a Volost town of the Ujesd Pyriatyn ( Poltava governorate ). In 1925 Jahotyn became a district center and in 1957 the town was regained its town charter .
Culture
There are several museums in Jahotyn, including the History Museum, the Museum of Education, and an art gallery. There is also a municipal culture house and two cinemas.

In Jahotyn and its surroundings there are several cemeteries with war graves of German soldiers who fell towards the end of the Battle of Kiev in September 1941 and were later buried in collective graves there.
Economy and Infrastructure

The economic development of the city of Jahotyn is closely related to the development of agriculture in Jahotyn district. The largest employer is the sugar combine of the science and production association "Zucker". There is a granary, a dairy factory, a poultry factory, a bakery, a brick factory and a feed mill. The fuel industry consists of a peat farm. There is also a mechanical experimental plant or plant for facilitating constructions.

Jahotyn has a train station on the Darnytsia – Hrebinka line . About two kilometers south of the city runs the M 03 motorway, part of the European route 40 .

The city has seven general education schools as well as a music and art school and five libraries.

In addition to the Black Sea port city of Odessa and the Carpathian city of Mukachevo , Jahotyn is also expected to take in refugees from Syria. The plans of the Kiev Migration Agency aroused sharp protests among the population. Access to the reception center was blocked by protesters in March 2016.
