history
The village was first mentioned in writing in 1142 under the name Gorodets . During the Mongol invasion of the Rus , the village was destroyed and repopulated in the 14th century. During the German-Soviet War , the city was occupied by Wehrmacht troops from August 3, 1941 to January 7, 1944 . In 1956, Kaharlyk became an urban-type settlement and on August 3, 1971, the village was granted city status.
On June 30, 1908, the Kagarlyk meteorite fell near the village . Since this happened only a few hours after the Tunguska event , a connection is suspected due to the otherwise unlikely temporal clash.
