Elín Hirst

Elín Stefánsdóttir Hirst (born September 4, 1960 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician ( Independence Party ), journalist and news anchor and producer of documentaries .

Elín holds a Bachelor of Science in television journalism from the University of Florida (1984) and a Master of Arts in history from the University of Iceland (2005). Among other things, she worked as a newscaster on radio and television and from 2002 to 2008 as the news chief of the public television broadcaster Sjónvarpið ( RÚV ). Elín Hirst has produced several documentaries and in 2011 published the book Ekki líta undan (“Don't look away”), which deals with the life of Guðrún Ebba Ólafsdóttir, the daughter of a former bishop of the Icelandic State Church who was supported by him both as a child and as Adults have been sexually abused .

Since the Icelandic parliamentary election from April 27, 2013 to October 2016, Elín was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the southwestern constituency . As of 2015, she was a member of the Parliament's Committee on Environment and Communication, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Special Committee for Parliament's Rules of Procedure. From 2013 to 2014 she was also a member of the Committee on Welfare. She was a member of the Icelandic delegation to the Nordic Council .
