Bohuslaw ( Ukrainian Богуслав ; Russian Богуслав Boguslaw ) is a city in the south of Kiev Oblast in Ukraine with about 16,700 inhabitants (2014).
The city is located on the banks of the Ros River 120 km south of Kiev and is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
history
The village was founded in 1032 by Yaroslav the Wise . In 1240 Bohuslaw was destroyed by the Mongol-Tatar hordes . Since 1362 Bohuslaw belonged to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania , and after the Union of Lublin in 1569 to Poland-Lithuania . In 1620 Bohuslaw received Magdeburg city rights . During the Khmelnytskyi Uprising and the Russo-Polish War , the city came under different domains until it went back to Poland in 1667 through the Treaty of Andrussowo .
In 1793 the city became part of the Russian Empire , together with the entire Right Bank of Ukraine . In 1919 the city fell to the Soviet Union . In 1923 Bohuslaw became the administrative center of the newly established Rajon and in 1938 Bohuslaw's city status was renewed. From 1941 to 1943 the city, occupied by Wehrmacht troops, was part of the Reichskommissariat Ukraine . After the liberation by the Red Army , Bohuslaw fell back to the USSR and in 1991 finally became part of the now independent Ukraine.

Bohuslaw is the administrative seat of the Rajons of the same name, founded in 1923. The Bohuslaw Rajon is located in the south of the Kiev Oblast, has about 35,700 inhabitants and an area of 772 km². The population density is 47 inhabitants per km².
