Rzhyshchiv (Ukrainian Ржищів ; Russian Ржищев / Rschischtschew ) is a city in the Ukraine in Kiev Oblast . The city, which is under oblast administration, is located about 63 kilometers southeast of the oblast capital Kiev on the right bank of the Dnieper and the mouth of the Lehlych .

history

The founding of the city is unknown and shrouded in legend, the first written mention of 1151 already shows a fortification. 1506, the site receives by Sigismund of Luxembourg , the Magdeburg rights conferred. Thanks to its location on the Dnepr, the place had an important position in trade with Russia, but this stagnated from the middle of the 19th century. In 1960 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and since June 6, 1995 Rschyshchiv has again the town charter.
