from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Louis Ernst Grünewald (born June 21, 1851 in Hanover , † April 18, 1933 in Hanover) was a German businessman and chairman of the supervisory board of the Herrenhausen brewery . Together with his son Friedrich Grünewald he ran in 1906, the merger of the two breweries Hannoversche Actien brewery with the corporation Vereinsbrauerei Herrhausen , today herrenhäuser brewery .

Life

family

Louis Ernst Grünewald was the son of the Duke of Cambridge's veterinarian and a born Eichwede whose family was involved in the bronze foundry Bernstorff & Eichwede . His son Friedrich Grünewald would later also claim a "historical" role in the history of the brewery in Herrenhausen.

Career

Louis Ernst Grünewald attended the Rats-Gymnasium in Hanover. After graduating from high school, he volunteered for a year with the King's Uhlans . He then became a successful businessman in the linen trade, which towards the end of the 19th century still played an important economic role in the Hanover area.

In 1890 Grünewald withdrew from his linen business - he had foreseen the coming decline of this branch of the economy . Instead, he sat on the flourishing brewery business: in 1891 he joined the "Aktiengesellschaft Vereinsbrauerei Herrhausen," while the former village in the same year Herrhausen in the city of Hanover was incorporated .

Just two years later, Louis Ernst Grünewald was elected to the supervisory board of the club's brewery in 1893 . At the same time, Grünewald was involved in the Uelzener Bierbrauerei-Gesellschaft , in which his son Friedrich initially worked from 1899. After Friedrich switched to the Hannoversche Actien brewery, the father for the club brewery in Herrenhausen and the son, as director of the Actien brewery, merged the two breweries in 1906. Friedrich Grünewald also became director of the now larger company.

Louis Ernst Grünewald, chairman of the supervisory board until his death, died on April 18, 1933.
