Friedrich Grünewald

Friedrich Grünewald (born July 26, 1876 in Hanover , † December 18, 1960 in Hanover) was a German businessman and manager . As director and later chairman of the executive board of the Herrenhausen Club Brewery , he played a decisive role in the expansion of the Herrenhausen Brewery today .

Friedrich was the son of Louis Ernst Grünewald (born June 21, 1876 in Hanover, † April 17, 1933 there), who was chairman of the supervisory board of the Herrenhausen brewery from 1891 . Friedrich Grünewald's daughter married Ernst W. Middendorff in 1926 .

Career

After attending the Lyceum in Hanover, Friedrich Grünewald completed a commercial apprenticeship in the food wholesale business and then did military service .

In 1899 Grünewald began his working life at the Ülzener Brewery and then moved to Hann. Aktienbrauerei , in which he became both director and member of the board in 1903 . When this merged with the Herrenhausen brewery in 1906 , Grünewald again became its director. In 1913, Grünewald acquired the Bierverlag Union company. Friedrich Grünewald won a lawsuit against the city of Pilsen for the use of the brand name “Herrenhäuser Pilsener”. In 1917 Grünewald organized a participation first in the purchase and then in the closure of both the Germania brewery and the Hanover civil brewery .

During the First World War and still in the Weimar Republic , beer output by the Herrenhausen Club Brewery declined due to the war. In 1932 Friedrich Grünewald was appointed Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Sweden . In 1937 Grünewald acquired the Kristallpalast in Hanover, and in the same year had the “Herrenhausen Brewery and Restaurants” demolished and rebuilt. In 1943 Friedrich Grünewald became chairman of the Herrenhausen club brewery. In 1948 he retired from the active business of the company.

During his retirement , Grünewald volunteered in numerous professional associations.
