The Kelmenzi – Kalinkavichy railway line is a cross-border branch line in Ukraine and Belarus . It runs from the Larha station near Kelmenzi , an urban-type settlement in southern Ukraine, in a northerly direction via Kamyanets-Podilskyj , Khmelnyzkyj , Starokostjantyniw , Shepetivka , Korosten , Ovrutsch and the Belarusian border station Slavechna to Kalinkawitschy , a railway junction in southern Belarus. The line has a gauge of 1520 m, between Kelmenzi and Shepetivka the line is single-track and not electrified, from Shepetivka it is double-tracked and also electrified to Korosten. On the Ukrainian side, operations are carried out by the Ukrainian Railways , in particular the Lvivska Salisnyzja (only in Larha and Kelmenzi) and the Piwdenno-Sachidna Salisnyzja , and on the Belarusian side from Slavechna by the Belaruskaja Tschyhunka (Belarusian Railways).

history

The line was built during the First World War as an important connecting line for the supply routes of the Russian Army in the Russian Empire . The line between Kamyanets-Podilskyj and Shepetivka was put into operation as early as 1914/1915 (construction had already started before the war), followed in 1916 by the line between Shepetivka and Kalinkawitschy. After 1918 the line was transferred to the Soviet railways , during the Second World War the line was occupied by Germany and the Reichsverkehrsdirektion Kiev (as part of the Reich Ministry of Transport ) took over the administration and began to change gauges to standard gauge. After the end of the war, the tracks were rebuilt to broad gauge, in the 1960s the track connection between Kamyanets-Podilskyj and Larha was built, the bridge built for this had to be rebuilt by the construction of the Dniester reservoir in the 1980s. In 1991 the line then became the property of the Ukrainian Railways and the Belarusian Railways.
