The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1150 and was in the Volyn Voivodeship until the Second Partition of Poland in 1793 . Then it came to Russia and was in the Volhynia Governorate until 1918 . Between 1920 and 1939, Korez was a border town between Poland and the Soviet Union under the Polish name of Korzec . After the occupation by the Soviet Union in 1939, the town was granted city status in 1940; after the occupation by Germany in World War II , the town came back to the Soviet Union and has been in what is now Ukraine since 1991.
