history

The place Beresne was first mentioned in documents in 1445. In the 15th century, the place, which then belonged to Poland-Lithuania, was granted city rights. In 1793 the place came to the Russian Empire . At that time there were 1,086 inhabitants in Beresne. By 1897 the population grew to 3,400. After the First World War , the place came to the newly founded Second Polish Republic . In Poland this was the place with the highest percentage of Jewish population. In 1939 their share was just under 95%. After the city was captured by the Wehrmacht on July 6, 1941, pogroms broke out . The Jewish population was brought together in a ghetto . On August 25, 1942, troops of the SD , the gendarmerie and the Ukrainian police liquidated the ghetto, in which 3680 Jews were shot. After the Second World War , the place came to the Soviet Union in the course of the westward displacement of Poland and became part of the Ukrainian SSR . Due to the heavy population losses suffered during the war, the place initially only had the status of a village. In 1957 Beresne was elevated to an urban-type settlement, and Beresne has been a town again since 2000.

Economy and Transport

The economic importance of the place is low. Two territorial connecting roads cross in Beresne. The nearest train station is in Malynsk, approx. 18 km away .
