Orschiw (Ukrainian Оржів ; Russian Оржев / Orschew , Polish Orzew ) is an urban-type settlement in the western Ukrainian Rivne Oblast with about 3900 inhabitants. It is located at the mouth of the Ustja River in the Horyn , about 18 kilometers northwest of the Rajons and at the same time Oblast capital Rivne .
On August 8, 2017 the settlement became part of the Klewan settlement community (Клеванська селищна громада / Klewanska selyschtschna hromada ). Until then, the settlement formed the settlement council community of the same name.
history
The oldest surviving written mention of the place comes from the 16th century. Until 1795 he belonged to the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania and there in the Volhynia Voivodeship . Then it came to the newly founded Volhynia Governorate as part of the Russian Empire . After the end of World War I , Orschiw became part of the Second Polish Republic ( Volyn Voivodeship , Powiat Równe, Gmina Klewań). After the outbreak of World War II , it was occupied by the Soviet Union and, from 1941, by Germany . In 1945 he finally came to the Soviet Union and was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR . Since 1959 the place has had the status of an urban-type settlement. Orshiv has belonged to it since Ukraine gained independence in 1991.
