The Lviv – Sdolbuniv railway is a main line in Ukraine . It runs from Lemberg (Lviv), the center of western Ukraine, in a north-easterly direction via Brody to Sdolbuniw , a city in the Ukrainian Oblast of Rivne . In addition, there is the branch line to Kremenez and Misoch, all lines have a gauge of 1520 m, the main line is double-tracked and electrified, the branch lines are single-track and not electrified. The operation is led by the Ukrainian railways , in particular the Lvivska Salisnyzja .

history

The southwest part of today's railway line between Lemberg and Brody (86 kilometers) was opened to traffic on July 12, 1869 by the Galician Carl Ludwig Railway . The line, which was then in Galicia , Austria , was licensed on May 15, 1867.

On the Russian side , the construction of the Berditschew - Radziwiłłów line by the Kiev-Brest Railway was completed in 1874, a single-track connection to the border was opened to traffic on the Austrian side on August 28, 1873, with the other gauge (normal gauge 1435 mm and Russian broad gauge 1520 mm) to the next border station.

The two branch lines to what was then Krzemieniec (1896) and to the sugar factory in Mizocz were also built by the Russian Railways before the First World War and are still in existence today.

After the end of the First World War, the line was taken over by the Polish State Railways , which switched the Russian broad-gauge lines to standard gauge and combined the two lines, in 1939 they operated the Lwów - Krasne - Zdołbunów route with the timetable number 405.

With the occupation of eastern Poland by the Soviet Union shortly at the beginning of the Second World War in 1939, the line came into the possession of the Soviet railways . These began immediately with the re-gauging of individual lines to Russian broad gauge (1520 mm), but this was reversed after Germany's attack on the Soviet Union in 1941 and the lines were placed under the Eastern Railway . The Lemberg - Krasne - Brody line was given the number 535. After the end of the war, the line was again taken over by the Soviet railways, which traced the entire line back to broad gauge and integrated it into their network, which was completed in 1991 taken over by the Ukrainian Railways.
