Werba (Ukrainian and Russian Верба ; Polish Werba ) is a Ukrainian village in Rivne Oblast . It is located in Dubno district , about 18 kilometers southwest of the district capital Dubno and about 59 kilometers southwest of the Oblast capital Rivne on the Ikwa River. Administratively, the place forms together with the villages of Bilohorodka (Білогородка), Sofijiwka Perscha (Софіївка Перша) and Sofijiwka Druha (Софіївка Друга) the district council of Werba.
The village was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1442 and belonged to the aristocratic republic of Poland (in the Volhynian Voivodeship ) until the 3rd Polish partition , then came to the Russian Empire , where it was in the Volhynian governorate . In 1918/1921 it fell to Poland and came to the Volyn Voivodeship in the Powiat Dubno , Gmina Werba . After the beginning of the Second World War , the Soviet Union occupied the area and made the place the capital of the Werba Rajon in January 1940 . After Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941, the place came under German rule until 1944 (incorporated into the Reichskommissariat Ukraine ), but was annexed again by the Soviet Union after the war and added to the Ukrainian SSR . In 1959 the Werba Raion was dissolved, annexed to the Dubno Raion and Werba remained a simple village, since 1991 it has been part of today's Ukraine.
