Nowa Uschyzja ( Ukrainian Нова Ушиця ; Russian Новая Ушица Nowaja Uschiza , Polish Nowa Uszyca ) is an urban-type settlement in the Ukrainian Oblast of Khmelnytskyi and the administrative center of the raion of the same name with about 4,100 inhabitants (2019).
Nowa Uschyzja lies on the Kaljus ( Калюс ), a 64 km long tributary of the Dniester , 80 km south-southeast of the Oblast capital Khmelnyzkyj . Territorial roads T – 06–10 , T – 23–08 and T – 23–15 meet in the village . The village of Kaskada borders the settlement to the southeast .
The town, first mentioned in 1439, received city rights in 1702/03 and was called Litniwzi ( Літнівці ) until 1829 . In 1924 the village received urban-type settlement status.
Rajon
Founded in 1923, Nowa Uschyzja Rajon, whose administrative center is the village, is located in the southeast of the oblast. It has an area of 853 km² and a population of around 23,000. The population density is 36 inhabitants per km².
