Polonne (Ukrainian Полонне ; Russian Полонное / Polonnoje , Polish Połonne ) is a city in Ukraine about 86 kilometers north of the Oblast capital Khmelnyzkyj on the Chomora River.
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 996 and was initially in Poland in the Kiev Voivodeship . In the 16th century, the town, known for its castle, was granted Magdeburg town charter, in 1795 the town became part of Russia and was administratively in the Volhynia governorate . In 1873 the railway line Sdolbuniw - Shepetivka (today part of the railway line Kovel - Kozyatyn ) was opened north of the place , Polonne got a station on this line.
In 1938 Polonne was granted city rights again, the city forms together with the village of Hannussyne (Ганнусине), located to the west, a municipality and is the capital of the Polonne Rajon .
