Deraschnja (Ukrainian and Russian Деражня ; Polish Derażnia ) is a city in Ukraine about 36 kilometers southeast of the Oblast capital Khmelnyzkyj on the river Vowk .
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1431 and was a small Cossack settlement. It was initially in Poland in the Podolia Voivodeship , was occupied by the Turks between 1672 and 1682 and then by Johann III. Sobieski reconnected to Poland. In 1792 the place came to Russia and was administratively in the governorate of Podolia . From the 18th century onwards, Jews gradually settled in the town, and the large Jewish community was wiped out during the Second World War. In 1987 Derashnya was given city rights again and is the capital of Deraschnja Rajon .
There is a large sugar factory in the village, and in the 1870s today's Krasne – Odessa railway was opened with a train station in the middle of the village.
