Kalanchak

Kalantschak ( Ukrainian Каланчак ; Russian Каланчак Kalantschak ) is an urban-type settlement in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast of Kherson with around 9,300 inhabitants (2015).

The settlement founded in 1794 has been the district center of the district of the same name since 1939 and has had the status of an urban-type settlement since 1967.

geography

Kalantschak is on the river Kalantscha (Ukrainian Каланча ) and the North Crimean Canal . The M 17 highway runs past the village , via which the oblast capital Kherson can be reached after 80 km in a north-westerly direction and the Isthmus of Perekop and the city of Armjansk on the Crimean peninsula after 40 and 45 km in a south-easterly direction. The Black Sea port of Skadowsk is 40 km southwest of the town.
