Serhiy Wassiljowitsch Bebeschko ( Ukrainian Сергій Васильович Бебешко , Russian Сергей Васильевич Бебешко , * 29 February 1968 in Nova Kakhovka , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian handball coach and former handball player . He was mostly used in the middle back position.
Career
The 1.84 m tall and 90 kg playmaker began his career in 1985 at SKA Minsk and became part of the dominant team in the late 1980s. With the army club he was Soviet champion in 1986, 1988 and 1989, won the European Cup in 1987, 1989 and 1990 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1988. After the collapse of the Soviet Union , he moved in 1992 to the Spanish ASOBAL league to BM Cuenca . After one season he joined BM Ciudad Real , with whom he stayed until 2000. In the 1998/99 season he was defeated in the final of the Euro City Cup of SG Flensburg-Handewitt . In the EHF Cup 1999/2000 he failed in the quarter-finals at the eventual winner RK Metković Jambo . He then played in the second Spanish and French leagues before ending his career as a player in 2006.
In the Soviet national team , Bebeschko made his debut in 1990, a year after he became world champion with the junior team in 1989. With the United Team of the CIS he won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. For the Olympic victory he received the award of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (Заслуженный мастер спорта СССР). He played 70 international matches .
After his active career, Bebeschko took over the coaching post from BM Huesca in 2006 and from BM Toledo in 2008 . With the Belarusian club HC Dinamo Minsk he won the Belarusian championship in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and the cup in 2010 and 2013. Internationally, he reached the third round in the EHF Cup 2009/10 , the group stage in the EHF Champions League 2010/11 , the quarter-finals in the EHF Cup 2011/12 and the last sixteen in the EHF Champions League 2012/13 . From 2013 to December 2014 he coached the Ukrainian champion HK Motor Saporischschja , with whom he faced THW Kiel in the last sixteen of the EHF Champions League 2013/14 . In 2015 he took over the coaching position of the Belarusian club Brest GK Meschkow , which won both the Belarusian championship and the Belarusian cup in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
