The Soviet men's national handball team ( Russian Мужская сборная СССР по гандболу ) represented the Soviet Union at internationals and international tournaments. The team's successes include a world title (1982) and two Olympic victories (1976 and 1988).
After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the team played their last international match on December 21, 1991 in a 19:21 (7:13) defeat in Flensburg against Germany . The team's direct successor was the national team of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) , which appeared again for the first time against Germany the day after in Wismar . During the Olympic Games in 1992 , they competed as a united team . After that, the Russian national team took over the tradition of the USSR as the official legal successor.

- 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal : 1st place (Olympic champion)

- 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul : 1st place (Olympic champion)
At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , the team did not take part due to a boycott.
