Montenegrin men's national handball team
The Montenegrin men's national handball team represents Montenegro in international tournaments in men's handball .
On August 7, 2006 , the Montenegrin handball federation joined the EHF , and the Montenegrin national handball team has existed since then.
The first national coach, Pero Milošević, immediately led the team to the 2008 European handball championship . In the qualifying group, the teams from Austria , the Netherlands and Finland prevailed, and in the play-offs the team won both games against Portugal . After qualifying, Ranko Popović took over as coach. In the first game of the European Championship tournament in Norway, the team reached a 25:25 draw against Russia . Despite defeats in the other two preliminary round games, this was enough to reach the main round. There they were eliminated without further points.
It was not until the 2013 World Cup that Montenegro was able to qualify for an international championship again, this time under the coach Zoran Kastratovic. In the group matches of the qualification , the team prevailed unbeaten against Latvia and Belgium, in the play-offs it surprisingly eliminated Sweden . At the World Cup tournament in Spain, all preliminary round games were lost.
Montenegro also qualified for the 2014 European Championship , including two wins against the German team . In the finals, the team finished last after three defeats.
