The Serbian national handball team ( Serbian Рукометна репрезентација Србије Rukometna reprezentacija Srbije ) represents the Serbian Handball Federation RSS at international competitions in men's handball . The team is treated by both the International and the European Handball Federation as the direct successor of the Serbian-Montenegrin national handball team , which ran from 1993 to 2003 as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The association has been a member of the EHF since 2006.
history
In qualifying for the handball world championship 2007 in Germany , the team failed in the qualifying play-offs against the Czech Republic . For the World Championships in 2009 and 2011 you could qualify and reached 8th and 10th place. In the play-offs for the 2015 World Cup, the team was defeated by the Czechs despite an eight-goal lead from their home game.
For the handball European championship 2008 one could not qualify because one was defeated in the qualifying play-offs Iceland . Two years later they were able to qualify for the 2010 European handball championship, but were eliminated in the preliminary round. At the European Handball Championship in 2012 in their own country, after a 19:21 defeat in the final against Denmark, they became vice European champions.
In the Mediterranean Games in 2009 in the Italian Pescara , the team secured the gold medal .
