HC Dobrogea Sud Constanța is a Romanian handball club from Constanța . From 2002 to 2015 the club played under the name HCM Constanta. You play in the Romanian League Națională. In 2014, the men's team won the Romanian championship for the ninth time in the club's history. In 2015 the club was dissolved due to financial problems and re-established as HC Dobrogea Sud Constanța. The home venue is the Sala Sporturilor with a capacity of 1,500 spectators.

history

The handball department was founded in 2002. The team became Romanian champions for the first time in the 2003/04 season. Thus they qualified for the coming season for the Champions League , where they were the last to be eliminated in the group stage against FC Barcelona and SC Szeged . In the league they only finished second and qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup 05/06 . There they got to the semi-finals, then lost to BM Valladolid . In the championship they celebrated their second title and in the cup they celebrated their first victory in club history. In the 06/07 season they celebrated their third title and were eliminated again in the group stage of the Champions League. The following season they finished second in the championship. In the Champions League they played against THW Kiel and Montpellier HB , which again led to an early elimination. In the 08/09 season a championship win followed. The European Cup Winners' Cup was just as successful as three years before, only that they were eliminated in the quarter-finals against BM Valladolid. The following season was the most successful so far in the club's history. They managed the fifth handball championship and in the Champions League they reached the round of 16 thanks to the new EHF game system. They were eliminated after two defeats against KC Veszprém . In the 2010/11 season they won the sixth championship with an eight-point advantage over the second-placed SZKC Odorhei. In the Romanian Cup they won the final against CS Energia Targu Jiu with 35:28 and were able to celebrate the second cup title in the club's history. Which entitles them to participate in the Champions League for the third time in a row next season. They were eliminated in the group phase of the season , after which they only finished fifth in the group with only one point behind HC Bosna Sarajevo .

In the EHF Europa Pokal 2013/14 Constanța reached the Final Four in Berlin . There they lost in the semi-finals to Montpellier AHB and in the game for third place to the host Füchsen Berlin .

In 2015 the association was dissolved for financial reasons. HC Dobrogea Sud Constanța was founded as the successor club. After a year in the second division Constanța rose again. In 2017/18 they played in the EHF Cup but failed in the third qualifying round at SC Magdeburg . In 2018 Constanța became the Romanian cup winner.
