European Cup Winners' Cup (handball)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Cup Winners 'Cup , English EHF Cup Winners' Cup , was the second highest European league for handball club teams for many years . In terms of its importance, it was clearly behind the Champions League , formerly the European Champion's Cup , but before the EHF Cup and the EHF Challenge Cup .

History and regulations

The European Cup Winners' Cup was held from 1976 for men and from 1977 for women. For the last time it was carried out for the men in the 2011/12 season and for the women in the 2015/16 season and then united with the EHF Cup . Most recently, he was not limited to the cup winners, the teams that were third in the Champions League after the group phase also took part in him. For the men, this applied from the round of 16, in which the winners from the third round moved; for women from the quarter-finals, in which the winners from the fourth round move in.
