The handball department of Dukla Prague (officially Dukla Praha ) was the most successful in the former Czechoslovakia and is now one of the leading teams in the Czech Republic . Dukla Prague was an army sports club. For many years, the club’s players formed the core of the Czechoslovak national team. The club had its most successful time in the 1960s, when it stood in the final of the European Champion Clubs ' Cup four times and won twice: When the competition was held for the first time, it was officially Prague's "city selection". In 1963 the second triumph followed after a final win in extra time over Dinamo Bucharest. In 1967 and 1968 Dukla reached the final of the competition again, but lost there once to VfL Gummersbach and once to Steaua Bucharest . The world championship team from 1967 played a number of Dukla players: They were also looked after by their coach Bedřich König. In 1982 the team reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup , but lost there just under Empor Rostock . In 1984 Dukla finally won the European Cup for the third time with a final victory in the seven-meter throw against Metaloplastika Šabac from Yugoslavia, after the team had failed the year before due to away goals in the quarter-finals of this competition at eventual winner Gummersbach. 1985 Dukla came again to the semi-finals of the championship competition, but failed there at BM Atlético Madrid . From 1986 to 1989 Dukla failed four times in a row in the round of the last eight and never made it past the quarter-finals of a European cup competition.

With a total of 32 national championship titles, Dukla is the club with the most championships in Europe, ahead of Kyndil Tóshaven (Faroe Islands / 30), Steaua Bucharest (Romania / 25) and RK Zagreb (Yugoslavia / Croatia, 25).
