Matias Strandvall (born March 15, 1985 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish cross-country skier .

Athletic career

In January 2004, Strandvall started in the Continental Cup for the first time . In Valkeakoski , however, he only finished 95th over 10 kilometers of freestyle. He had his first use in the cross-country skiing world cup in the following season 2004/05 in Kuusamo . Over the classic distance of 15 kilometers, however, he finished 98th and last place in the field. In Lahti he failed as 49th in the qualification of the locker competition. At the Junior World Championships 2005 in Rovaniemi , he reached the final run and convinced with fifth place. Strandvall's best result at the U23 World Cup in 2006 in Kranj was 26th place over 15 kilometers classic. He secured his first World Cup points at the World Cup in Changchun , where he reached the quarter-finals in the sprint competition and finished in 18th place. He had a surprise success at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo in 2007 , when he reached the semifinals in the sprint competition and was able to fight for ninth place. At the U23 World Cup, he qualified again for the final and secured the bronze medal in the sprint competition. At the end of the season he sprinted his first top ten result in the World Cup. In Stockholm he won the B final and finished seventh. He confirmed these results in the 2007/08 season , when he could regularly reach the quarter-finals. In Canmore, Alberta, Canada , he secured third place for the first time on the podium in a World Cup competition. At the U23 World Cup in Mals , however, he was eliminated in the semi-finals and finished ninth in the end. At the end of his best season to date, he was 39th in the overall World Cup and twelfth in the overall ranking of sprint competitions. After moderate results in the 2008/09 season, Strandvall qualified for the quarter-finals at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec and finished 24th. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season, he continued the good results from 2007 and took fourth place in the final of the sprint competition in Davos .
