The 46th Nordic World Ski Championships took place from February 22nd to March 4th, 2007 in the Japanese city of Sapporo , which was chosen as the World Cup venue on June 6th, 2002 during the 43rd FIS Congress in Portorož , Slovenia . Sapporo hosted the 1972 Winter Olympics , the Nordic competitions of which also counted as the World Cup.
18 competitions were held, including twelve cross-country skiing competitions , three ski jumping competitions and three Nordic combined competitions . The cross-country skiing competitions took place in Shirahatayama, the ski jumping from the normal hill on the Miyanomori hill , the ski jumping from the large hill on the Ōkurayama hill . For the first time in history, part of the sprint cross-country skiing trails led through a hall, the Sapporo Dome . In ski jumping, the team competition on the normal hill was removed from the program again.
As always, Norway has been the most successful nation in recent years with five World Cup titles. Finland also had five titles, but had significantly fewer silver and bronze medals. Then there was a big gap to the next successful country: Germany followed with two World Cup titles.
The Finn Virpi Kuitunen , who won three gold and one bronze medal, made a particularly strong impression among the cross-country skiers . Her compatriot Riitta-Liisa Roponen won two world titles. In the men's category , three athletes, the two Norwegians Odd-Bjørn Hjelmeset and Lars Berger - a biathlete by nature - and the Finn Hannu Manninen won two gold medals each. The Swiss Simon Ammann - ski jumping - and the German Ronny Ackermann - Nordic combined - each won with a world title and a second place. The two cross-country skiers Kateřina Neumannová , Czech Republic and Olga Sawjalowa , Russia came to the same conclusion .
