Lina Andersson (born March 18, 1981 in Gällivare ) is a former Swedish cross-country skier .

Athletic career

Lina Andersson (2005)

Internationally she made her first appearance at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1997 in Calgary and in the same year she won three titles at the European Olympic Winter Youth Days 1997 . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Pontresina in 1998 , she won the gold medal with the relay. A few weeks after her World Cup debut in November 1998, she won a gold medal over five kilometers in classic style at the Junior World Championships in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer . She was able to repeat this success two years later in Karpacz . In addition, she was second in Karpacz over 15 kilometers in freestyle and third in the Swedish 4x5 kilometer relay. In between, she was able to win the relay title with the Swedish cross-country relay at the Junior World Championships in 2000 in Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia . She secured her first podium in the World Cup on November 26, 2000 as a member of the relay, which reached third place in Beitostølen, Norway .

Two weaker seasons followed, but Andersson was able to improve again in the winter of 2004/2005 - but was soon affected again by several illnesses. Her career highlight was the 2006 Winter Olympics , when she and Anna Dahlberg became Olympic champion in the team sprint. In the following years, however, she rarely succeeded in advancing into sprint semifinals, in 2010 and 2011 she only reached one final each. Andersson announced her retirement on April 12, 2011, not least because of chronic respiratory problems. She announced that she wanted to start studying. She took part in a total of five Nordic World Ski Championships and twelve Swedish championships and started at 102 World Cup races.
