Anna-Karin Strömstedt starts for Vansbro Allmänna Idrottsklubb SK . She is married and lives in Borlänge . She began her sporting career as a cross-country skier at the end of the 1990s. The Swede had her first major international competition at the Junior World Championships, where she was 26th in the 5-kilometer freestyle in Pontresina . With the relay she won the gold medal there. About two months later, she made her debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in Falun , where she was 71st in a 5-kilometer freestyle race. In 2000 she took part again in the Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso and was 45th in the 5-kilometer freestyle and 36th in the freestyle sprint. Up until 2004 there were repeated assignments in lower-class races, the Continental Cup, the Cross-Country Marathon Cup and FIS races , often with good placements up to podium places. In February 2004 she again took part in a World Cup race in Umeå , but did not finish this 10-kilometer classic race. In 2004 and 2005, Strömstedt won two FIS and one Scandinavian Cup races. In addition, it was now increasingly used in the World Cup and won World Cup points for the first time in February 2005 in Reit im Winkl as the 20th in a classic sprint. In December 2005 she came in Nové Město na Moravě on a fifth and thus for the first time on a top ten place in a freestyle sprint. In January 2006, she came back tenth in Otepää over the 10-kilometer classic. The 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin were the highlight of the season . In the double pursuit of Pragelato Plan , Strömstedt did not achieve any outstanding results with a 47th place or the 30-kilometer freestyle with 30th place. She achieved her best performance with Anna Dahlberg , Elin Ek and Britta Johansson Norgren in the relay race, in which she was the final runner, but had to admit defeat to Claudia Künzel and Sabina Valbusa in the finish sprint and thus just missed a medal in fourth place. A few weeks after the games, Strömstedt achieved another outstanding World Cup result with Britta Norgren in Sapporo as third place in a team sprint. At the end of the season, the Swede won bronze medals at the national championships both over the 10-kilometer classic behind Elk and Norgren and behind Dahlberg and Norgren in the freestyle sprint. At the last relay race before the 2007 World Championships in Sapporo, Strömstedt with Lina Andersson , Charlotte Kalla and Norgren was able to achieve their only World Cup victory in the relay race in Davos . At the world championship, she was 40th in the pursuit and did not finish the 30-kilometer classic race. Since then, the cross-country World Cup has become less frequent and the Swede has not won any more points.
