Elin Ek (born August 31, 1973 in Avesta ) is a former Swedish cross-country skier .

Career

Ek, who started for the IFK Mora , won the bronze medal at the Junior World Ski Championships in 1992 in Vuokatti and the silver medal with the relay at the 1993 World Junior Ski Championships in Harrachov . In March 1994 she made her debut in the World Cup in Falun and finished 47th in the 10 km freestyle. In the 1994/95 season she took her first World Cup point in Östersund with 30th place in the 30 km freestyle. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , she won 40th place over 30 km freestyle. In the following season she came eight times in the points and at the end of the season she finished 39th in the overall World Cup. With the ninth place in the sprint in Reit im Winkl she reached her first top ten place in the World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim in 1997 , she finished 25th over 30 km classic. After three results outside of the World Cup points at the beginning of the 1997/98 season, she came three times in a row in the points and reached the 47th place in the overall World Cup. At her first Olympic participation in Nagano in 1998 , she finished 43rd over 5 km classic and 35th over 15 km classic. The following year she won the Tjejvasan . After she could not achieve any World Cup points in the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 seasons, she took 19th place over 5 km classic in Otepää in her only World Cup participation in the 2000/01 season . Her best placements at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti were 14th place over 10 km classic and fifth place with the relay. At the beginning of the 2001/02 season she was third with the relay in Kuopio . In the further course of the season she came in the points once in eight individual participations in the World Cup. Her best results at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City were 19th place over 10 km classic and 12th place with the relay. In the following season, she reached 14 points in 15 individual participations in the World Cup, including two top ten placements. Her best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme were tenth place in the 15 km mass start race and sixth place in the relay. She finished the season in 29th place in the overall World Cup. In the 2003/04 season she was in the top ten four times in the World Cup singles. With fifth place in the 15 km mass start race, she achieved her best individual placement in the World Cup and at the end of the season she finished 21st in the overall World Cup and 18th in the Distance World Cup. In the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons she achieved placings in the midfield in the individual World Cups and finished 42nd and 28th in the overall World Cup. In December 2004 she was third in the team sprint in Asiago with Anna Dahlberg . Her best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf were 13th place in the 30 km mass start race and eighth place in the relay. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , she achieved 31st place in the skiathlon , 23rd place over 10 km classic and fourth place with the relay. Also in 2006 she won the Tjejvasan. In the 2006/07 season she started in the Marathon Cup . She came second at the Marcialonga and the Engadin Skimarathon . She also won the König-Ludwig-Lauf , the Tartu Maraton and the Wasalauf , thus winning the overall ranking of the Marathon Cup. Also in her last active season 2007/08 she took part in competitions of the Marathon Cup . She took third place at La Sgambeda , the Dolomitenlauf and the Birkebeinerrennet and second place at the Marcialonga and the Engadin Skimarathon. As in the previous year, she also won the König-Ludwig-Lauf and took third place in the overall standings at the end of the season.

Ek was eight times Swedish champion , including seven individual titles. She won once over 10 km (2006), twice over 30 km (2003, 2004), three times in the pursuit or skiathlon (2003, 2004, 2007), once in the sprint (2002) and once with the relay (2008) of IFK Mora.
