Skiathlon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The skiathlon is a cross-country skiing discipline that has been held since 2003. In principle, the skiathlon is a hunting race in which the break between the two runs is replaced by a flying change.

In the skiathlon, the first half of the race is run in the classic technique and the second half of the race in the more modern skating technique . The athletes take to the track in the mass start and after half of the distance to be covered change their skis and sticks in the change boxes provided for this purpose.

The cross-country discipline of skiathlon is also called pursuit, double pursuit or ski duathlon. The men run the distance of 30 kilometers, the women run 15 kilometers.
