Ilja Grigoryevich Tschernoussow [ tʃʲɛr.nɔ.'u.sɔv ] ( Russian Илья Григорьевич Черноу́сов ; born August 7, 1986 in Novosibirsk ) is a Russian cross-country skier .

Athletic career

Chernousov had his first international assignment in April 2004 at the Continental Cup in Murmansk . He finished 16th there over 15 kilometers classic. At the Junior World Championships 2005 in Rovaniemi , he was 19th over 10 kilometers freestyle. With the Russian relay he won the gold medal. The following year he won the silver medal in the pursuit competition at the Junior World Championships 2006 in Kranj . Over 10 kilometers in classic he finished fifth. Chernousov made his first appearance in the cross-country skiing world cup in the 2006/07 season in Gällivare , where he secured his first world cup points as the 26th over 15 kilometers freestyle. At the Tour de Ski 2006/07 he fought for 18th place. He secured his first podium with the Russian relay, which won the World Cup in Davos . At the U23 World Championships in Tarvisio , he won the silver medal over 15 kilometers of freestyle. He finished fifth and fourth in the sprint and pursuit competition. In Mals he again won the silver medal at the U23 World Championship in 2008 over the distance of 30 kilometers freestyle (mass start). In the 2008/09 season he won a race in the cross-country Eastern Europe Cup in Rybinsk for the first time . At the Russian championships, he secured the silver medal in the pursuit competition.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo he was third in the pursuit race. Also in 2011 he won the Arctic Circle Race, which runs over 160 km in three stages . After only getting mediocre results in the 2011/12 season , he went to the Alpine Cup for two races and won sprints and singles in St. Ulrich am Pillersee .

Back in the World Cup, Chernousov finished the Tour de Ski 2011/2012 in 10th place. After finishing eighth in Otepää , Chernousov reached the podium twice in Rybinsk, finishing second. He narrowly missed another podium with fourth place in Szklarska Poręba . He started the 2012/13 season with fifth place at the season opener in Kuusamo . In the Tour de Ski 2012/2013 , Chernousov again reached 10th place overall. At the skiathlon in Sochi , he was second on the podium again.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme , Chernousov clearly missed top placements. In the skiathlon he finished 25th. In the individual over 15 km he was only 40th. At the end of the season in Falun , he finished sixth again. He finished the Tour de Ski 2013/2014 in seventh place at the beginning of the 2013/14 season .

At the 2014 Winter Olympics , Chernousov just missed his first Olympic medal in the skiathlon in fifth. In the 50 km race he won the bronze medal. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, he finished 30th at the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer . In the further course of the season he won the Engadin Skimarathon , the Russian Avacha Ski Marathon and the Icelandic Fossavatn Ski Marathon over 50 km in the classic technique. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun , he came in 15th place in the skiathlon. In the 2016/17 season he won at La Diagonela and finished second at La Sgambeda and thus reached eighth place in the overall ranking of the Ski Classics . In the following season he took third place in the Kaiser-Maximilian-Lauf , second place at La Diagonela and first place at Marcialonga, eighth place in the overall Ski Classic ranking. At the end of April 2018 he won the Fossavatn Ski Marathon.

Personal

Tschernoussow has been in a relationship with the Swiss biathlete Selina Gasparin since October 2011 and has been married to her since the beginning of June 2014. The civil wedding took place in his hometown Novosibirsk . Both kept their family names. They live in S-chanf , the destination of the Engadin Skimarathon, and have been the parents of a daughter since the end of February 2015.
