Sergei Wladimirowitsch Novikow ( Russian Сергей Владимирович Новиков ; born August 28, 1980 in Dolinsk ) is a Russian cross-country skier .

Career

Nowikow has been taking part in competitions of the Fédération Internationale de Ski since 1998 . He had his first success at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2000 in Štrbské Pleso . There he won gold in the sprint. He ran his first World Cup race in Moscow in January 2000 , which he finished in 45th place over 30 km freestyle. In February 2001 he won gold in the 10 km freestyle and 30 km freestyle at the Winter Universiade . He took his first World Cup point at the beginning of the 2001/02 season in Kuopio with 30th place over 10 km freestyle. Two days later he finished fourth with the season. His best placings at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City were tenth place over 15 km classic and sixth place with the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme , he achieved 17th place in the 20 km double pursuit race, 14th place in the sprint and fourth place with the relay. In February 2004 he took third place in the relay in La Clusaz, his first World Cup podium. At the beginning of the 2005/06 season he reached Vernon with sixth place in the 30 km skiathlon race, his first top ten placement in an individual World Cup race. At the World Cup race in Otepää in January 2006 , he achieved third place over 15 km classic. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Pragelato , he came in 25th place in the sprint, eighth place over 15 km classic and sixth place with the relay. He finished the Tour de Ski 2006/07 in 22nd place overall. In February 2007, he won his first and so far only World Cup victory with the relay in Davos . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007 in Sapporo , he finished 41st in the 50 km mass start race. In 2008 he became the Russian champion over 15 km classic. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 he reached 46th place in the 30 km skiathlon and 25th place over 15 km classic. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he finished 43rd in the 30 km pursuit. Since the 2010/11 season he has mainly competed in the Eastern Europe Cup , which he won in the 2012/13 season.
