The 2006/07 Cross-Country World Cup began on October 28, 2006 in Düsseldorf and ended on March 25, 2007 in Falun . During the season from February 22 to March 4, 2007, the Nordic World Ski Championships were held in Sapporo . For the first time, a stage race was part of the cross-country skiing world cup with the Tour de Ski .

Overall victory in the men's category went to German Tobias Angerer for the second time in a row . Angerer, who was able to record four World Cup successes this season, laid the foundation for successfully defending his title by winning the Tour de Ski. At the end of the season he won with a 661 point lead over Russian Alexander Legkow , who had also finished second behind Angerer in the Tour de Ski. Third place in the overall World Cup ranking went to Norwegian Eldar Rønning . The small crystal ball in the ranking of the distance races also went to Tobias Angerer. Second place in this ranking went to the French Vincent Vittoz ahead of the Norwegian Odd-Bjørn Hjelmeset . The sprint races were dominated by the Norwegian athletes. Jens Arne Svartedal secured victory in the overall sprint race standings ahead of his compatriot Trond Iversen . Third place went to the Swede Emil Jönsson .

The women’s overall victory in the World Cup went to the winner of the Tour de Ski. In addition to the Tour de Ski, the Finn Virpi Kuitunen won another seven races of the season and also secured the small crystal balls in the overall ratings of the distance and sprint competitions. She also wins with a clear margin of 569 points over Norwegian Marit Bjørgen . Third place in the overall World Cup ranking went to the Czech Kateřina Neumannová . In the ranking of the distance competitions, second and third place went to Kateřina Neumannová and Kuitunen's Finnish compatriot Aino-Kaisa Saarinen . The Slovenian Petra Majdič and the Russian Natalja Matwejewa completed the podium in the sprint competitions.

The victory in the Nations Cup went to Norway for the eleventh time in a row. Places two and three went to Germany and Russia. Finland won the ranking of the women’s competition ahead of Norway and Germany. In the men's category, victory went to the Norwegian athletes. Russia secured second place ahead of Germany.
