Remo Fischer (born August 13, 1981 in Bäretswil ) is a former Swiss cross-country skier .

life and career

Fischer began cross-country skiing at the age of nine and took part in a junior world championship for the first time in 2000. He achieved his best result in Štrbské Pleso when he finished 28th over 10 km freestyle in the victory of German Ron Spanuth . A year later he started at the Junior World Championships in Karpacz, Poland . His best result was 17th place over the 30 km freestyle, which was held in the mass start.

In the 2002/03 season Remo Fischer was used for the first time in the cross-country skiing world cup . On his debut in Davos he reached 80th place out of 94 athletes over the distance of 15 km freestyle. When he got another chance in the World Cup in the 2004/05 season, he was able to achieve his first World Cup points in Ramsau with 23rd place in the 30 km pursuit. This result secured him a starting place in the Swiss national team at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf . There he took 46th place in the pursuit competition, 16th place over the 15 km freestyle and 15th place with the relay.

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , Fischer made 21st place over 50 km freestyle and 36th place in the pursuit competition. With the Swiss relay, he placed seventh. He achieved a respectable success in the following season 2006/07, when he was able to advance into the top ten in a World Cup competition for the first time in his home town of Davos with fifth place over 15 km freestyle. However, he was not able to confirm this result at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo . Only 46th place resulted over the same distance. In the 2007/08 season, Remo Fischer made it onto the podium in a World Cup competition for the first time. In Oslo he finished third over the 50 km freestyle behind the Swede Anders Södergren and the Czech Lukáš Bauer . In Rybinsk , Russia , he was able to advance into the top ten with seventh place over the 30 km freestyle. In the 2008/09 season he was able to win the Swiss championship title over 15 km freestyle as well as the silver medal in the pursuit over 20 km. Internationally, the 19th place over 50 km freestyle on the occasion of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec was his most valuable result. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he ran the 15 km freestyle in 15th place. During the World Cup season 2009/10 he was able to achieve a top ten ranking again with the 10th place over the same distance at the competitions in Beitostølen . In February 2010 he was a member of the 4 × 10 km relay which, on the occasion of the World Cup in La Clusaz, was the first Swiss men's relay to win a World Cup race.

He finished the Tour de Ski 2010/11 in 22nd place overall. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 , he finished 37th in the 50 km mass start race, 33rd in the 30 km pursuit race and ninth place with the relay. At the Swiss cross-country skiing championship 2011 in Bex , he won bronze in the 15 km freestyle and silver in the 20 km pursuit race. In March 2011, Fischer won the Engadin Skimarathon . The following year he won the Gommerlauf over 30 km freestyle. He finished the Tour de Ski 2012/13 in 29th place overall. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he came in 34th place over 15 km freestyle and sixth place with the relay. He achieved 22nd place in the 50 km mass start race and seventh place with the relay at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . He ended his career after the season.
