Cross-country Alpine Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cross-Country Alpine Cup , sometimes also the OPA Alpine Cup or FIS OPA Continental Cup , is one of nine series as part of the Cross-Country Continental Cup , which is held under the umbrella of the International Ski Association FIS by the organization of the Alpine countries' ski associations .

history

After the Alpine Cup was held as a junior series for years, after the FIS Congress in Miami in 2004, it was incorporated into the 2004/05 season as an official Continental Cup, i.e. as a B series for the cross-country skiing world cup . Even today there is still a Youth Alpine Cup, which is called U 18 and is held according to the same rules as the Continental Cup. Cross-country skiers from all member associations affiliated to the FIS World Federation can take part in the Alpencup, but only athletes from OPA members can collect points according to the FIS point system . These member associations are Andorra, Germany , Austria , France , Italy , Liechtenstein , Slovenia , Spain , Switzerland and the Czech Republic. From the points awarded, the overall winner is determined at the end of each season, who then gets a permanent place in the World Cup.

In contrast to the World Cup ratings, the three worst results can be deleted from the overall standings, but only if more than twelve competitions are held in the season in question. In the competitions themselves there is a U-20 rating for women and men in addition to the senior category. In addition to the overall ranking, winners are also determined in the sprint and distance disciplines. In addition, the best nation is honored. The overall winners receive trophies and prize money. There are medals for the winners of the individual races.

Similar to the Tour de Ski in the World Cup, two mini-tours, each with three stages, are held as part of the Alpine Cup. For the best 30 athletes on the mini-tour, double points will be awarded for the overall ranking. In addition, the European Cross-Country Ski Championship has been held annually since 2011 as a U-18 competition of the European Ski Federation (ESF) as part of the Alpine Cup .
