Manuela Henkel (born December 4, 1974 in Neuhaus am Rennweg , Suhl district , GDR ) is a former German cross-country skier .

Career

Manuela Henkel took part in her first competitions as early as preschool age. In 1987 she switched to the children's and youth sports school in Oberhof . After graduating from high school, she joined the Bundeswehr sports promotion group in 1993 .

The multiple German champion from WSV Oberhof 05 won gold in the cross-country relay at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 , Manuela Henkel became world champion, also with the German cross-country relay. She also took part in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano (5th place with the relay) and 2006 in Turin .

After missing the Olympic qualification for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, she announced her retirement from competitive sports on January 20, 2010.
