Barbra Mette Stockfleth "Babben" Enger-Damon (born September 19, 1939 in Oslo ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier who started in the 1960s. Her greatest success was winning the relay gold medal at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble .
Career
Enger-Damon was born in 1939 as the daughter of the Norwegian painter Erling Enger . In 1963 and 1964 she was Norwegian champion over the 10 km individual distance. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , she ran in 18th place over the 5 km. Over the 10 km distance, she was only able to reach the finish in 31st place. After the Games, she married the US cross-country skier Larry Damon . For the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble Enger-Damon again reached the qualification.
In Grenoble, she surprisingly won the relay over three times five kilometers , together with Inger Aufles and Berit Mørdre, and thus for the first time women's relay gold for Norway. Since the games were also considered a world championship, she also became world champion with the relay. Over the 10 km, Enger-Damon also ran into the top 10 and came in eighth.
In addition to her cross-country skiing career, Enger-Damon was also active in other sports. She became Norwegian sailing champion and won several silver and bronze medals at the Norwegian championships in orienteering . At the first European Championships in September 1962 in Løten , Norway , she was ninth in the individual competition and second with the team in the unofficial relay competition.
