Jelena Valerjewna Välbe ( Russian Елена Валерьевна Вяльбе, née Трубицына / Trubizyna ; born April 24, 1968 in Magadan ) is a former Russian cross-country skier . At the beginning of her career she started for the Soviet Union , in 1992 under the colors of the CIS , then for Russia.

She is still one of the most successful cross-country skiers of all time. At world championships, Välbe won 14 gold and two silver medals. She was the outstanding athlete of the 1997 World Cup in Trondheim , where she won all four individual races and with the Russian relay.

Välbe won the gold medal with the CIS relay at the 1992 Olympic Games in Albertville . Could this success with the Russian season in 1994 in Lillehammer and 1998 in Nagano repeat. However, she was not granted an individual victory at the Olympic Games, but in 1992 she won four more bronze medals.

Välbe won the overall ranking of the cross-country skiing world cup five times in 1989, 1991, 1992, 1995 and 1997. She long held the record for the number of victories (45) and podium places (81) in world cup races. In 1992 Välbe received the Holmenkollen Medal .

After her active career, Välbe became President of the Russian Cross-Country Association.
