Toini Gustafsson-Rönnlund , b. Karvonen (born January 17, 1938 in Suomussalmi ) is a former Swedish cross-country skier . Originally Finnish , she came to Sweden during World War II and was adopted there.

Career

Toini Gustafsson, who competed for IFK Likenäs and Skellefteå SK , had her first international success in 1960 at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival . There she won the 10 km run for the first time. Two years later she won the silver medal with the relay at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 . The following year she was second in the Svenska Skidspelen over 10 km. At the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , she won the silver medal with the relay. In addition, she achieved eighth place over 10 km and sixth place over 5 km. In the same year she came in third place in the 10 km run at the Lahti Ski Games and at the Svenska Skidspelen. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 , she won over 10 km and the bronze medal with the relay. Furthermore, she was sixth over 5 km. In the same year she won the 10 km run at the Svenska Skidspelen for the first time. The following year she repeated this success and also won the 10 km run at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. At the Lahti Ski Games in February 1967 she came in third place over 10 km. At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , she was Olympic champion both over 5 km and over 10 km. With the Swedish relay she won the silver medal at these games. In 1968 she also won the 10 km run at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival for the third time and the 10 km run at the Lahti Ski Games for the first time. and came second at the Svenska Skidspelen.

Gustafsson was honored with the Holmenkollen Medal in 1967 and the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal in 1968 . In Swedish championships she won six times over 5 km (1962-1965, 1967, 1968) and five times over 10 km (1962-1964, 1966, 1967). With the season of Skellefteå SK , she became champion in 1968. She was married to the former Swedish cross-country skier Assar Rönnlund until his death .
