Career

Haga took part in junior races until 2011. From 2011 to 2014 she mainly competed in the Scandinavian Cup . At the European Youth Olympic Festival 2009 she won silver once and bronze twice. She ran her first World Cup race in March 2010 in Oslo , which she finished with 47th place in the 30 km mass start race. At the Junior World Championships 2011 in Otepää she won gold twice and bronze once. She got her first World Cup points in February 2011 in Drammen with the 24th place over 10 km classic. In January 2012 she reached third place with the relay in Nove Mesto, her first and so far only podium in the World Cup. At the U23 World Championships in Liberec in 2013 , she won gold in the 15 km skiathlon and over 10 km freestyle. At the U23 World Championships in 2014 in Val di Fiemme , she won silver in the 15 km skiathlon. She had her best position so far in a World Cup individual race in December 2014 in Davos with fourth place over 10 km freestyle. She finished the 2015 Tour de Ski in fourth place overall. She achieved third place at the prologue race in Oberstdorf . At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun , she came 29th in the 10 km freestyle. She finished the season in fifth place in the distance and overall World Cup. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season she finished 12th at the Nordic Opening in Ruka . She was third in the sprint stage. At the Tour de Ski 2016 she achieved sixth place in the overall ranking with five top ten placements. At the end of January 2016, she came third in the skiathlon at the Norwegian championships. At the end of the season, she achieved 13th place in the overall World Cup and tenth place in the Distance World Cup. After finishing tenth in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, she won her first World Cup victory in the relay in La Clusaz . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2017, she finished fourth in the 30 km mass start race. At the World Cup final in Québec she came in 12th place in the overall standings and reached 19th place in the overall World Cup and 15th place in the Distance World Cup. In April 2017 she won the Svalbard skimaraton over 42 km classic.

After several podium finishes in the World Cup season, Haga was nominated for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . There she started in the skiathlon, but already lost contact with the top group in the classic part and came in fifteenth in the end. Five days later she surprised the 10 km freestyle when she turned it up more and more in the course of the race and won the gold medal with a 20.3 second lead over the Olympic champion in the skiathlon Charlotte Kalla . Haga had her next assignment in the 4 × 5 km relay. Haga ran the first freestyle part and, after her compatriot Astrid Jacobsen faltered, was sent into the race almost 30 seconds behind the front. She was able to close the gap on the leading Swedes and Russians almost completely and the final runner Marit Bjørgen finally won gold in the duel against Stina Nilsson for the Norwegian relay. On the final day of the Olympic Games, Haga took 12th place in the 30 km mass start race in the classic technique. At the end of the season she was fourth in the World Cup finals in Falun and came ninth in the overall World Cup and eighth in the Distance World Cup.

In the 2018/19 season, Haga took ninth place in the Lillehammer Triple and tenth place in the 30 km mass start race at the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld in Tyrol . In addition, she won in Beitostølen with the relay and reached the end of the season, 27th place in the overall World Cup and 16th place in the Distance World Cup. After finishing 28th in the Ruka Triple at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, she finished 17th in the Tour de Ski 2019/20 and 13th in the ski tour and thus reached 19th place in the overall World Cup and 16th place in the distance world cup.
