Placements in the cross-country skiing world cup
Bente Skari (born September 10, 1972 in Oslo ; born Bente Martinsen ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier . She is the daughter of Odd Martinsen . Before she married Geir Skari in 1999, she started under her maiden name Martinsen.
Career
Skari won the 4 × 5 kilometer title with the Norwegian relay team at the Junior World Championships in 1991 in Reit im Winkl . She won her first Olympic medals, a silver one with the relay and a bronze over 5 km, in 1998. At the 2002 Winter Games, she was Olympic champion over 10 km, and she also achieved second place with the relay and third over 30 km. At world championships , Skari won a total of five titles between 1997 and 2003 and achieved two other podium places. In 2001 she was honored with the Holmenkollen Medal (her father received it in 1969).
In the FIS Cross-Country World Cup Skari was also very successful and won a total of 42 races. She achieved 14 victories in her last season in 2002/03 alone, an achievement that no other runner has even come close to achieving. Skari won the overall ranking of the World Cup four times: 1999 (tied with Stefania Belmondo ), 2000, 2002 and 2003.
