Maj Helen Sorkmo , born in Nymoen (born August 14, 1969 in Os ), is a former Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Sorkmo, who started for the IL Trysilgutten and the OS IL , competed in the FIS between 1991 and 2003 . She achieved two World Cup victories , both in relay competitions of the 2002/03 World Cup season . She also came in third four times and second three times with the season. Her best individual placements in the World Cup were the second place in the sprint in December 1998 in Engelberg and in December 1999 in Kitzbühel and three third places in the sprint. In the 1999/2000 season she achieved her best overall placements with three top ten placements in the World Cup individual, 12th place in the overall World Cup and fifth place in the Sprint World Cup. In December 1994 she won her only wins in the Continental Cup in Ilomantsi over 5 km classic and 10 km freestyle . Sorkmo also took part in the Winter Olympics twice. Her best result came in sixth place in the women's sprint competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . At the Nordic World Ski Championships two 14th places were her best results. She achieved this over five kilometers in the classic world championships in 1999 and in the sprint in free technique in 2003 . At Norwegian championships she won third place five times and second place once. With the season of IL Trysilgutten she became Norwegian champion in 1995.
