Galina Alexejewna Kulakowa ( Russian Галина Алексеевна Кулакова ; born April 29, 1942 in Logatschi, Udmurtia ) is a former Soviet cross-country skier who started for the Soviet Union during the 1970s .
Career
Kulakova won four Olympic gold medals in her career. At her first Olympic participation in Grenoble in 1968 , she won bronze with the relay and silver over 5 km. Over 10 km, she took sixth place there. At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , she won over 5 kilometers, over 10 kilometers and with the relay. At the 1976 Winter Olympic Games Kulakowa third parties had become km above 5, the medal was but her disallowed because they had used a nasal spray containing the banned substance ephedrine contained. She was the first woman to be found doping at the Olympic Games . However, both the FIS and the IOC allowed her to participate in the remaining races, in which she won gold (relay) and bronze (10 km). At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , she won silver with the relay. In addition, she was sixth over 5 km and fifth over 10 km.
At the Nordic World Ski Championships Kulakowa was able to win five gold medals between 1970 and 1980 (twice each over 5 km and with the relay and once over 10 km). In 1970 and 1979 she won the Holmenkollen Ski Festival in the 10 km run. In the Svenska Skidspelen she won four times over 10 km (1973, 1974, 1975, 1977), twice over 5 km (1973, 1974) and once over 20 km (1979). She also came second in 1975 over 5 km and in 1980 over 20 km. At the Lahti Ski Games she won the 10 km run five times (1972–1975, 1979) and six times with the relay (1969, 1972, 1975–1977, 1979). In addition, she was second over 10 km in 1969 and second over 5 km and 20 km in 1977. With the season she won twice the third place (1968, 1978) and once the second place (1973). In 1979 she won the overall ranking of the cross-country skiing world cup .
Kulakowa won 39 times at Soviet championships, 11 times over 10 km (1969–1975, 1977–1979, 1982), six times over 5 km (1969, 1973–1975, 1977, 1979), five times over 20 km (1977 –1981), five times over 30 km (1975–1977, 1979, 1980) and 12 times with the relay (1975–1977, 1979, 1980). She ended her career in 1982. She was awarded the Order of Lenin for her achievements and received the Olympic Order in Silver from Juan Antonio Samaranch in 1984 .
